Marketplace Knowledge and Options Product Awareness

Series 4 expects the options principal to maintain enough market knowledge to supervise associated persons intelligently. That includes order types, trading strategies, trading rotations and fast markets, market-participant roles, and trading halts. The point is not to turn the principal into a floor professional. It is to make sure the principal understands the environment the associated person is operating in.

This section is a reminder that personnel supervision depends on product and market knowledge. If the principal does not understand the trading setting, it becomes harder to judge whether the associated person’s conduct is appropriate.
