Registrations, Disclosures, and Heightened Supervision

Learn how Series 4 tests U4/U5 maintenance, CE, OBA, PST, and heightened-supervision obligations for associated persons.

After hiring, the options principal has to maintain the associated person’s registration and disclosure profile correctly. Series 4 tests continuing education, Form U4 and U5 maintenance, outside business activities, private securities transactions, employee accounts, lending arrangements, disciplinary issues, and heightened supervision. These are all ways that the person’s ability to function in the role can change over time.

The exam often rewards the answer that prefers formal updating and documented supervision over informal monitoring. If a disclosure or outside activity changes the person’s regulatory profile, the firm needs to treat that as a live supervisory issue.
