Review how Series 4 tests options suitability, Reg BI, strategy fit, and position or exercise limits in customer accounts.
This section asks whether the options strategies recommended in the account are appropriate for the customer and consistent with regulatory and firm standards. Series 4 expects the options principal to review the strategy, the customer’s profile, and the impact of position and exercise limits when assessing whether the activity should proceed.
Options suitability is more than knowing how a strategy works. The principal has to ask whether the strategy fits the customer’s objectives, experience, and tolerance for assignment, leverage, and loss. The exam often makes this harder by presenting sophisticated strategies that are technically valid but poorly matched to the customer’s profile.
The safer answer usually is the one that protects the customer from excess complexity or concentration and routes questionable strategies into closer supervisory review.
